Casetta del Fuoco (Fire Cottage) is a modern, fully equipped converted shipping container “Tiny House”. It is situated just 9km outside of the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg and is perfect for a couple or a small family. Surrounded by untouched indigenous fynbos, semi off-grid and green (eco friendly), you can unwind and recharge in the tranquility of the surroundings and use it as a base for exploring both Johannesburg and Pretoria (30km away).

The space

After we lost our house in the devastating fire of 2017, Casetta del Fuoco was our home for almost 2 years while we rebuilt, hence the name meaning Fire Cottage in Italian. It is quaint and compact, but since we lived there for such a long time, it has everything you need for a fully self catering stay.

Experience trendy Tiny House living first hand. Our cottage features 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed and wardrobe. The 2nd bedroom has bunk beds and a wardrobe area. There is also a sleeper couch in the lounge area.

The small, modern bathroom has a toilet, basin and shower.

There is an open plan lounge with a kitchen corner featuring a 2 plate gas hob, microwave, bar fridge and toaster.

There is a little deck outside and a braai (BBQ).

We have a camp cot available for guests with small babies (please communicate this beforehand so we can set it up for you).

We are semi off-grid and we try to live as eco friendly as possible incorporating the following into your rental experience and bringing down our own (and your) carbon footprint:

*The container runs on solar panels during the day time and grid supply during the evenings.

*It has a solar geyser (with electric backup)

*We use only rain water (filtered drinking water is provided)

*We provide recycling bins that are easy to use

*All lights are LED’s

*We provide you with eco friendly, biodegradable cleaning products and toiletries

*We recycle grey-water

*No single use plastics are provided or used (no small bottles or sachets of shampoo, no disposable plastic cups or cutlery etc)

*Our cottage itself is made from an up-cycled shipping container!

Guest access

Guests have access to the whole container cottage as it is separate from our own house. There is an outside deck area with a braai (BBQ) and a grass area.

Other things to note

Please note, our farm is away from busy roads, but we do not have a fence (we prefer open spaces).

We live off the Airport road and you will need to drive on a dirt road for 1.5kms to reach us – we promise the tranquility will be worth it!
